People still leave the city for the July 4th holiday. But if you look around Manhattan, the streets will not be as empty this July 4th. Many former business areas have now become residential, unlike in 1958 when business and residential areas were more distinct.

One thing to notice: parking a car on July 4th in Manhattan was relatively easy.
