You’ll Never See This Cartoon On Saturday Morning
Decades before South Park, Warner Bros. put this cartoon out in theaters. Bosko’s Picture Show, from 1933 features this incredible scene.
Here is the entire original cartoon and at about 5:50 in, is the offensive portion. Or just watch the 3 second clip below.
Language warning here – play in front of children at your discretion:
How this cartoon was ever shown is inexplicable, unless I misheard what is being said.
This was the last Bosko cartoon that Warner Bros. / Looney Tunes ever did. Produced by the same man who would put out some of the great Warner Bros. cartoons, Leon Schlesinger and drawn by legendary animator Friz Freleng, this is a far cry from Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig.

One should remember that these cartoons were not created for kids. They were created to be played in theaters along with news reels prior to the night’s feature film, which usually did not begin until 9pm or so. Theaters are where adults went on the evenings on weekends, and it was not just for an hour or two. The movie was only the centerpiece. There were the news reels (TV had not been invented yet, so this is where people could actually see what they read in the papers!), cigars and socialization during the intermissions, snacks, PSA shorts, etc. It was an entire evening, four hours typically, dedicated to the entertainment, informing, and socialization of American adults. These cartoons were a popular part of the whole vast theater experience. They were not shown for the Sunday matinee, when children would go to the theater. The cartoons for that were things like Steamboat Willie and Popeye, followed by the Lone Ranger, Zorro, etc.
Warner Bros. was exclusively interested in the Saturday night adult crowd though, and their cartoons, including Bosko and Bugs, were always meant for adult audiences.
I listened to it a half dozen times, and I’m hearing the same thing you are, unless he’s using an archaic slang that sounds awfully similar. I wonder if the animators knew this was going to be Bosko’s final appearance and wanted him to go out with a bang.
