Veterans In New York Walkout To Protest Veteran Firings – 1946
Today is Veterans Day. A United States holiday like many others that is taken for granted by far too many as a day off from work or just another holiday sale.
The original news slug here explains the situation:
VETERAN STUDENTS IN WALKOUT
New York – Some of the 700 veterans who walked out in protest to the firing of veteran instructors at Manhattan Technical Institute are pictured outside the building, 1560 Broadway. photo: Acme October 14, 1946
You see the veterans shown above, Black and White – united.
Veterans stick together.
Veterans have traditionally been given the short end of the stick. Look back at how veterans have been treated over the last 100 years and you will see that is true.
The fact that there are so many 501c charity organizations today to help veterans meet their needs proves that the country is not meeting their obligations to veterans. Don’t we, the people and the government, owe veterans more than grateful words and a “day”?
Jobs, benefits, top medical assistance, respect and dignity. Veterans defending our freedom have earned those things.
The government considers them useful only when they’re doing the job the politicians are too old or too afraid to do.
