Cardinals star Lou Brock did not just excel in regular season play but would shine in World Series action.

Brock, appearing in the 1964, 1967 and 1968 World Series hit .391, scored 16 runs and had a 1.079 OPS. Each of those World Series would go the distance – seven games – with the Cardinals winning in 1964 against the Yankees and in 1967 against the Red Sox, but losing in 1968 to the Tigers.

In 21 World Series games Brock would steal 14 bases, and hit 4 home runs with 13 RBIs.

In game six of the 1967 World Series against the Boston Red Sox, Brock hit a home run in the seventh inning to tie the game at four apiece. But it wasn’t enough as the Red Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the inning and would win the game 8-4. The Red Sox hit a total of four homers in the game, including three in the bottom of the fourth establishing a World Series record for most home runs in an inning.

The Cardinals though would prevail and win game 7.

From 1961 – 1979 Lou Brock batted a career .291 with 149 home runs, 900 RBI’s and 938 stolen bases. Lou Brock would enter the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985. Brock passed away at age 81 on September 6, 2020.
